Since 1985, Matthias Hofs is member of the unique ensemble «German Brass» and, together with Enrique Crespo is the musical director April 14, 2011 within the festival "Evenings on the Volga River Brass" conducted by Brandt Brass Ensemble and the Saratov State Conservatory named after L.V. Sobinov a master class and recital of the Professor of Higher School of Music in Hamburg, the world-renowned music director of the ensemble «German Brass» Matthias Hofs (Germany) took place. 

Beginning in 1975, when he was just ten years old, he began studying the trumpet with Professor Peter Kallensee. In 1982 he enrolled at the University of Music and Theatre in Hamburg, Germany, where he continued his studies with Prof. Kallensee. 
In 1984 he moved to Professor Konradin Groth at the Karajan-Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. He graduated with distinction. 

Matthias early enough became internationally known performer. Mostly thanks to victories at prestigious competitions: 

1983 Hanse-Kulturpreis, Hanseatic City of Luebeck, Germany 

1987 First prize in the competition of music universities 

1988 Eduard-Soehring Prize 

1989 Grants received from the German Council on Music (Deutscher Musikrat) and the Mozart Society 

1990 First prize awarded at the International Music Competition in Markneukirchen, Germany Winner of the German musical scholarship Society named after V.A. Mozart ,1989 and arranger for this group. 

M. Hofs for a long time has been a solo trumpetist in the Philharmonic State Orchestra in Hamburg, where he is now a welcomed guest. Is also an invited soloist at the symphony orchestras of Berlin and Munich Philharmonics. 

Since 2000 - Professor Matthias Hofs is a professor of brass and chamber music of the Higher School of Music in Hamburg. As a teacher he is in demand around the world. His master classes are held in the Summer Academy of Music in Schleswig-Holstein, at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Copenhagen, Mexico and Japan. 

The first solo album "Un Concerto Italiano" for trumpet and organ, was published in 1995. 2006 - an album by Matthias Hofs and Hans Gansha. 

As a soloist, M. Hofs toured around the world, in all countries and continents, including Japan and the United States. 

The master class was held at the Great Hall of the Saratov Conservatory, entrance for all visitors was free. The master class topics were discussed: 
- Statement and work on performance breathing; articulation of the artist on Brass instrument, functions and the role of language in sound extraction in Brass instruments; 
- Construction of daily activities of the performer on brass instruments; 
- Work of the teacher with the beginners; 
- Work on the artistic works; 
- Also Matthias spoke about his creative biography. 

In recital, "Cordial greetings from Hamburg" in the Great Hall of the Saratov Conservatory, made a presentation with the organ. Organist, professor at the Higher School of Music in HamburgHartmut Rohmeyer (Germany). 

In concert of Matthias Hofs were used Piccolo trumpet in B and in G as well as the Corno da caccia. All the instruments are manufactured by «Thein» company (Germany), the representative of which is M. Hofs.
